Scattering

Informally, scattering refers to the tendency of solutions to a nonlinear equation to converge asymptotically as $t\to \pm \infty$ to solutions of the linear equation. Scattering can be formalized by rigorous results establishing the existence and surjectivity of wave operators; the surjectivity is also known as asymptotic completeness.
